Lewisham
Welcome to Everyday Swim Lewisham. My name is Jo Melchior, and I have been appointed to work with local partners on ways of getting more of the almost 250,000 residents of Lewisham get active in their local pools.
This pilot has been tasked with removing the barriers to participation for three major groups within the Borough:-
- Children & Young People
- Older People
- Black and Minority Ethnic Communities
Statistically in Lewisham these are the people who seem to be missing out on the benefits of aquatic exercise. With the advice from fellow professionals, consultation with community groups, and most importantly the views and opinions of the general public, we will be looking to find out the reasons why people in Lewisham are not currently swimming, and devise new, exiting and innovative methods to convince them to re-start or try for the first time.
Everyday Swim and Lewisham host successful disability event creating new opportunities for local swimmers and competitors from London and surrounding regions.
Young Swimmers from Saxon Crown Swimming Club along with some enthusiastic and supportive parents and masters swimmers, took part in the World record breaking synchronised swimming display called the “Big Synch” at Hackney Fields Lido on Saturday 22nd September.
Friday 14th September saw the official launch of Everyday Swim in Lewisham.
The weekend of the 15th & 16th of September, saw the first ever Lewisham Swim Weekend.
A innovative scheme has been launched in Lewisham enabling residents to discover the wide range of activities, intiatives and events in their area.
